The Irk Valley Project has installed railings and a colourful entrance at Eggington Street, improved the condition of some flights of steps down the slopes to the central cobbled pathway, and carried out general woodland management.

There have been several community events held at Sandhills, such as wildflower planting, bird box building and general cleanups.

The Irk Valley Tenants and Residents Association has been very supportive of the activities of the Irk Valley Project at Sandhills.

2005 saw a lot of activity on the Sandhills area, the development of a large wildflower area on the bank of Fitzgeorge St supported by the local community and funded by a Green Greater Manchester bid led to a large display of wildflowers throughout the summer. This will hopefully be followed by an even larger display in 2006.

In addition to this the local school assisted in a bird box making session and clean on the area during Manchester City Council 100 day clean up campaign. Some of these bird boxes have been used this summer although we do have squirrels undertaking their own DIY on one or two boxes.
