Groundwork
Manchester Salford and Trafford have been working hard to
raise the awareness of Moston Vale and its development potential.
This has been done through a series of Manchester City Council
Housing department consultation drop-ins, as well as doorknocking
at properties adjacent to the site.
The ‘Moston Moo’ was designed with a local artist
and the young people of Moston Youth Centre, to show their
thoughts and ideas about the current and future use of the
Vale, and Moston in general. It was part of the City’s
CowParade Manchester 2004, and has been donated back to Sure
Start in Harpurhey.
Burgess Primary School pupils have been out and about taking
a photographic inventory of the site, and producing maps from
these. We are hoping that other local schools will be able
to utilise the fieldwork potential of the Vale over the coming
years.
Groundwork, in partnership with UKOnline, the Harpurhey Neighbourhood
Project, and Moston Valley Residents Association, are also
running a local history project, to encourage the older residents
to tell us their interesting stories of growing up in Moston.
We are hoping to present this historical information on boards
around the site, as well as in a display at the Harpurhey
Neighbourhood Project. This will form part of a larger body
of historical research about the whole of the Irk Valley.
The highly successful Community Launch event for improvements
to Moston Vale coincided with the end of the Irk Walk on
July 2nd 2006. A programme of events on site is being developed
in conjunction with the local community, and will be run
by Groundwork Manchester Salford and Trafford
A successful photography project engaging 9 young people and
based around Moston Vale took place in May 2007
