Moston Cow Art Goes on Parade in City
Art lovers will get the chance to appreciate an ‘udderly’ unusual exhibition in Manchester this summer, with some of the works on show created by local youngsters. The CowParade Manchester 2004, an international art exhibition which has already visited New York, Sydney and Tokyo, will feature a huge herd of cows grazing in the city centre. Over the last few weeks the young people at Moston Youth Centre have designed the ‘Moston Moo’, their very own bovine creation, with the help of a local artist.

As part of the consultation process for the Moston Vale Community Woodlands Regeneration Initiative, the images on the cow represent the thoughts of the young people about the Vale and the wider community in Moston. Moston Vale has been chosen as one site in a unique scheme that will reclaim large areas of derelict and neglected land across the north west, transforming them into open green spaces for the community.

Groundwork Manchester Salford and Trafford have been commissioned to carry out the community consultation for the scheme and from this produce a masterplan for the site that reflects the community’s aspirations. A spokesman for Groundwork said:
“Hopefully the decoration of the cow will provide food for thought for other local people and a sense of pride in the local area, when it is displayed alongside other cows in the city centre”
